Cost-effective solutions and robust devices for harsh process conditions
OPTISWIRL flowmeters are ideal for measuring the flow of conductive and non-conductive liquids, dry or moist gases, saturated steam, and superheated steam in industrial utility applications (auxiliary circuits) and supply circuits. The OPTISWIRL 4200 is also the ideal solution for modern energy management (in accordance with ISO 50001), as the required gross/net heat quantity measurement for steam and condensate can be integrated.
For gas and steam measurements under changing operating conditions, the device can optionally be equipped with an integrated pressure sensor optimised for the respective application. The special pressure sensors ensure precise maintenance of process conditions, even in natural gas applications with low process pressures. The new gold-plated pressure sensors for the demanding measurement of hydrogen are also pioneering. The OPTISWIRL 5080 has proven itself in applications with high temperatures and high pressures. The device provides reliable and stable measurements even under harsh process conditions and low flow rates.

Your energy management solution
Heat metering is essential for recording heat transfer in heating and cooling circuits. Thanks to the precise measurement of individual consumption, this method enables billing according to source and is thus compliant with ISO 50001 and therefore suitable for energy management systems. The OPTISWIRL 4200 is the ideal measuring system for determining gross and net heat quantities. The device is installed in the supply pipe and records the flow rate and the amount of heat supplied by steam or water.
To calculate the actual net heat quantity consumption, only an additional temperature sensor needs to be installed in the outlet, which is connected to the 4...20mA input of the OPTISWIRL 4200 or via HART CatchDevice. The built-in heat quantity calculator of the OPTISWIRL 4200 calculates the net heat quantity - without any additional energy calculator!
Reliability and safety
Approved worldwide for use in hazardous areas
The OPTISWIRL 4200 can be used in almost any hazardous area and offers a choice of several types of ignition protection.
The devices are ATEX, IECEx and QPS approved for the USA and Canada and NEPSI approved for China. In addition, the measuring devices have further local approvals such as EAC for Kazakhstan, INMETRO for Brazil, KCS for Korea or CCOE for India.
SIL 2/3 conformity
The OPTISWIRL 4200 is certified for use in PLT safety devices for SIL 2 applications in the single device version and for SIL 3 applications in the dual device version. Both its hardware and software are designed for maximum reliability and minimum failure probability.
With an outstanding fault response time of 30 seconds, which includes both a complete internal diagnosis and the fault response time, and as the only Vortex measuring device with approval for “Continuous Mode” operation, the OPTISWIRL 4200 offers unrivalled features for use in safety-critical applications.

With the classic installation of a Vortex flowmeter with separate pressure and temperature sensor and flow computer, all errors occurring in the measuring chain must be considered when determining the system accuracy.
By using a Vortex flowmeter with integrated pressure and temperature compensation such as the OPTISWIRL 4200, you can not only reduce installation costs, but also increase the measuring accuracy of the measuring point.
Application assistant for easy configuration without a manual
All OPTISWIRL measuring devices are programmed and delivered according to the customer's application, so that on-site parameterisation is not necessary. However, if reprogramming is necessary, intelligent application assistants guide you step by step through all the menu items that may be relevant for the new measuring task - it couldn´t be more effective!

Flexibility for changing requirements
From the basic model with integrated temperature compensation for saturated steam applications to the sophisticated system with integrated pressure sensor and heat meter. If the measurement requirements change during use, additional functions such as pressure compensation or heat quantity calculation can be activated later - without the need for hardware replacement or firmware updates by the service department. Pressure or temperature values from existing external sensors can be fed in and utilised via a 4...20 mA signal input or HART CatchDevice.

Service
Replacing electronics without re-parameterisation
The electronic components of the OPTISWIRL 4200 are equipped with redundant data storage. All calibration, customer and application parameters are stored in both the display unit and the electronics unit. In the very rare event of a hardware defect, one of the two components can be replaced without reprogramming. After the connection, the data is automatically transferred from the programmed unit to the new unit. This simple replacement minimises downtimes as far as possible.

As part of the KROHNE Service, myDevice combines a range of smart service tools tailored to the needs of users and operators of KROHNE field devices.
OPTICHECK
The OPTISWIRL 4200 can be verified with the OPTICHECK Master in less than 10 minutes, without recalibration or disassembly of the measuring device.
OPTICHECK Master is a handheld device for in-depth verification, commissioning and monitoring of KROHNE field devices. By maximising the depth of testing, this service tool ensures that process measuring devices always function in accordance with their specifications. Operators can thus extend the time interval between recalibrations.
